I. Put Yourself In Someone Else’s Shoes II. Exploring Relics III. When the Earth Shifts IV. Taking it to the Next Level V. Advanced Tips for Each Nightfarer VI. Some Final Words

So, Nightfarer, you’ve learned the basics of the game, you understand the Expedition Cycle, you’ve beaten at least one Nightlord, and now you’re ready for some more advanced tips.
We’re more than happy to oblige.

Put Yourself In Someone Else’s Shoes

One of the keys to better teamwork and synergy is understanding how each Nightfarer plays.
Take the time to play through at least one expedition as each Nightfarer so you can see the strengths and weaknesses of these classes for yourself.
This will make you a more successful collaborator no matter who your team picks to play.

Exploring Relics

In our Beginner Tips article, we mentioned how all Nightlords’ weaknesses can be seen on their profile in the Expedition, and how players should seek out weapons in that element before Day 3 begins. However, there are other steps you can take to maximize your chances of defeating your Nightlord.
Relics are not simply stat boosts. Some relics can change the elemental skill of your starting weapon or add a status ailment. If you haven’t received a relic with this ability, we recommend you spend some Murk at the Small Jar Bazaar. The Scenic Flatstone is a way to greatly increase your relic inventory. When you buy it, you will receive a random relic of any possible rarity and colour.
Like weapons and items, relics also have rarity and colours, although they are slightly different. Colours mainly affect which chalices can use them, although some colours seem to have a greater affinity for some types of stat bonuses than others.
The smallest and most common are Delicate relics, with one effect. The second largest are Polished relics, with two effects, and the most powerful are Grand relics, with three effects. The better your performance in an expedition, the more relics you will receive, increasing your chances of acquiring a Grand relic.
We mentioned in the Beginner Tips article that the Small Jar can help diversify your chalice options, offering one additional chalice per character for sale, but other chalices can be unlocked by completing certain in-game actions that you’ll discover as you get deeper into your struggle against the Night.
You can unlock additional relics for each Nightfarer by completing their Journal Remembrances. Nightlords also have unique relics that you’ll receive when you defeat them.

When the Earth Shifts

As your campaign against the Night continues, the land of Limveld will begin to change more and more. Entire areas will be disrupted, revealing new structures, enemies, and bosses. This is the Shifting Earth.
These strange new areas often contain unique buffs or upgrades that cannot be found in other map configurations. That’s why it’s important to take the state of your map into account when choosing which Nightlord to hunt.
Usually, the earth will only shift to a new configuration after a successful expedition. It is possible to reset the state of the map to the default version by sleeping in the Roundtable Hold.

Taking it to the Next Level

All runes that come from killing enemies are automatically credited to all players, and chests that drop from bosses generally have higher quality items than chests found in the overworld, therefore, having a team that can defeat multiple bosses simultaneously is incredibly advantageous in terms of leveling and power.
If your team defeats a boss on Day One, but not all team members can reach the location of the drops before the Night’s Tide arrives, don’t worry. These boss chests and items do not despawn at the end of the day, and when the Tide recedes on Day Two, you can pick them up right away. Unfortunately, any items swallowed by the tide on Day Two are lost forever.
Splitting up can have other advantages as well. Certain types of weapons are typically found in specific structures, e.g., bows are most often found in tower ruins, seals are most often found in dungeons below ruined cathedrals or village altars, magical staves are usually found in rises, daggers and swords are usually found in castles, and so on.
If each Nightfarer picks a route through Limveld that prioritizes visiting structures with the weapons they need, they have a better chance of being well-equipped on the third day.
You will also be able to see the elements available in certain camps and ruins on your map. Pick the elements you need to fight your Nightlord and support your team (for example, if you are playing with a Recluse and need her to be able to concoct a specific spell).
When in possession of the item 'Wending Grace,' you have the one-time use ability to rise and revive yourself during a boss battle when everyone is near death and facing defeat. This rare Legendary item can be obtained as a reward for defeating formidable enemies such as bosses.
During single play, Wending Grace can be purchased from merchants found in various locations. In the harsh trials of an adventure without allies to rescue you, this item will prove to be extremely helpful.

Advanced Tips for Each Nightfarer

In this section, we will offer a few small tips for each member of the Roundtable Hold team. Use them to improve how you use your favourite Nightfarer or understand your teammates.
Wylder
Wylder’s Sixth Sense passive ability can be reset by touching a Site of Grace or being revived. If you are not certain if you still have your passive, there will be a small icon of Wylders head below your stamina bar if the passive has not been used.
Jumping attacks mix very well with Wylder’s Claw Shot skill, regardless if the enemy is large or small. For smaller enemies a jumping attack helps you close the gap while the enemy is stunned after being pulled, and for large enemies a jumping attack will cover more ground thanks to the additional momentum of being dragged toward your foe.
Duchess
Duchess’s Magnificent Poise passive greatly reduces her stamina cost for dodging and attacking, allowing her to string together many quick successive attacks.
Although her dagger’s default buff is magic, using status ailments like poison, frost, or bleed are also highly effective due to the number of attacks she can land quickly.
Taking Restage into account, Duchess is incredibly efficient at applying statuses to enemies.
Her Restage character skill can be activated at nearly any time, e.g., if she is in the middle of an attack animation. It returns approximately 50% of the damage dealt within the last few seconds and includes all attacks against all enemies and teammates in an area of effect around her, which means that the entire team can focus down on one foe or more quickly clear out crowds.
Guardian
Guardian’s Steel Guard ability is perfect when fishing for Guard Counters but be aware that shifting from a normal block to the Steel Guard stance leaves an opening of approximately half a second. Therefore, it is not recommended to switch to Steel Guard in the middle of an enemy’s combo unless you are highly confident in your timing.
The Whirlwind character skill can be used against light projectiles like arrows or fire pots, but it can also be used to deflect even larger projectiles, like the huge Magic Pots thrown from the fort battlements when guarded by trolls.
Recluse
Recluse’s Elemental Defense passive ability is the key to staying stocked with FP, so use it frequently. If you are fast enough and low on FP, you can snatch a residue off of a low level enemy before it dies from your last spell or pick one up from your teammates if they have recently tangled with an enemy that uses an elemental attack.
In most expeditions, magic residue will be the most readily available residue, thanks to your own attacks. Therefore, you should know the magic elemental combinations from Magic Cocktail by heart. The order of the residues does not matter, only the ratio. Take particular care with the Magic/Fire spell, as this wraith-like flame pursues enemies, but travels very slowly. For an active boss, casting at closer range may be a risk worth taking.
Ironeye
Ironeye’s passive ability Eagle Eye is always active during an expedition for all team members, and makes it easier to fine high-rarity weapons.
Although Ironeye’s Marking skill only puts an “X” over one lock-on point when used against larger enemies, the effect is present no matter where you strike. Take advantage of this when dealing with enemies like dragons, where attacks to the head have a greater chance to stagger the beast.
Raider
Raider’s passive ability and character skill work hand in hand. Fighter’s Resolve allows him to passively build up a unique buff when taking damage that changes Retaliate into a slower and much more powerful attack.
If Raider takes a single hit during his Retaliate skill animation that normally would have killed him, he will survive it with 1 HP left.
The drawback to this heavier attack is that it does not track very well and therefore may miss enemies that dart around at high speed. Choose your moment carefully.
Executor
Executor’s passive Tenacity ability activates when he is affected by status ailments and can be triggered in two ways.
First, by allowing the ailment bar to completely empty naturally or second, by using the associated bolus or a cleansing site to remove the ailment.
This passive ability can be activated intentionally as an additional buff before a big fight with the right combination of relics to alter your starting items or lucky consumable pickups.
The Cursed Sword skill is the only character skill with no cooldown, so have no fear of entering and exiting this stance at will.
The sword also retains charges built up since the previous usage, even if you die and respawn.
In general, this sword stance requires you to become familiar with an enemy’s attack patterns, as not all types of attacks can be deflected. Approach unknown foes with caution.
Revenant
Revenant’s passive ability, Necromancy, has no upper limit to the number of enemies it can return from the grave, even when a member of the Family is on the field. However, these summons are limited by time and will vanish after approximately one minute.
Additionally, attacks from the Family or temporary summons can also count towards creating a Necromancy summon, as long as they land the killing blow.
The Family who are summoned when using the Summon Spirit character skill may have a difficult time standing up to the aggression of bosses and are more of a distraction than a reliable source of damage against these powerful foes.
However, they each have a unique ultimate of their own that activates when Revenant uses her Immortal March ultimate art, so take that into account when using it to revive your teammates.
Additionally, unlike Recluse, Revenant does not have an inborn method to restore her FP, so relics that add Starlite Shards to her starting inventory may be highly useful.
